Charles Card

Hi, I’m Charles Card. Since age 11, I have been catching fish on flies I have tied myself. I grew up in northeastern Utah with the Uinta mountains and the renowned Green river as my home waters. As a self-taught fly fisherman and fly tier, I have earned a deep education and respect for the sport of fly fishing.

I became involved in the sport as a professional fly tier at age 13 and since have tied commercially for shops and guides, designed patterns for Montana Fly Company, Orvis, and had my first fly pattern featured in a fly fishing magazine at age 14. I have guided fly anglers on the Green River in Utah and Wyoming since 1996 and continue the love of guiding with Spinnerfall Guide Service. I have been a field tester for LL Bean and a pro staffer for Cortland Line Company, Winston Rod Company, along with Aquaz.

I have worked for Big Foot Fly Shop, Cabela’s Fly Shop in Lehi Utah, spent five years working for Trout Unlimited as a national staffer, fighting a large trans-basin water diversion project from the Green River. I also have been a competing member of Fly Fishing Team USA, earning multiple medals in National and international fly fishing competitions. Some of my most memorable accomplishments in the sport have been, out-fishing electrofishing equipment on a fish study project, a saltwater grand slam on the fourth of July, fishing behind the reigning national fly fishing champion (and good friend) on a beat during competition, then outperforming him after he already fished the beat! And last but not least, watching my wife and daughter cast, fish, and tie flies with me.

I enjoy all facets of fly fishing and really enjoy the travel, knowledge, and ability to continuously learn as one progresses through the stages of fly fishing. The friends made along this lifelong journey is sweet icing on the cake.
